3 Tips for Losing Weight While Sitting At A Desk During Your Work Day

If you sit at a desk all day during your work hours, it’s easy to feel like there isn’t a good way to bring some health and fitness into your work routines. However, just because sitting at a desk doesn’t as easily lend itself to being fit and healthy as other jobs might, you can still find ways to get the most physically out of your work day while simultaneously getting all your work done. To show you how, here are three tips for losing weight at work when you have a desk job.

Make Water Your Beverage Of Choice

Most offices allow their employees access to various beverages, like coffee, soda, tea, and others. Even if you can’t get these drinks at the office, you likely have a coffee shop or other convenience store close to where you work, making it easy to stop in for an energy drink if you feel like you’re getting drowsy. However, these empty calories can wreak havoc on a body looking to lose weight. So rather than choosing one of these options, Brittany Anas, a contributor to Women’s Health Magazine, recommends making water your beverage of choice while sitting at your desk. You can even infuse your water with fresh fruit if you’re looking for more flavor. Water will help keep your bodily systems regular, fight off hunger and sleepiness, and keep you from getting headaches from staring at a screen all day.

Exercise While At Your Desk

Even when you’re stuck at your desk all day, you can still get in some good exercise that will help you build muscle and burn off some calories. Diana Kelly, a contributor to Reader’s DIgest, shares that some of the muscle groups you can work on while at your desk are your abs, calves, quads and glutes. Any movement that flexes and strengthens these muscles, be it tightening and releasing your abs or quads, will help keep your body moving and your muscles growing.

Bring Your Own Snacks

Many modern offices have break rooms and vending machines loaded with unhealthy snacks. Chips, cookies, candy, donuts and more can likely be found all over your office at this exact moment. And while these treats might satiate you for a while, they definitely aren’t good for your body. So rather than taking the easy way out and grabbing something unhealthy from the vending machine when you need a snack, Jill Corleone, a contributor to LiveStrong.com, suggests bringing in healthy snacks from home to eat at your desk. Things like fresh fruit and vegetables, whole-grain crackers or nuts are a much healthier option and will give you the energy you need to power through your day at the office.

If you want to lose weight but feel like you’re fighting against sitting at your desk all day at work, use the tips mentioned above to help you find simple ways to get healthier despite conducting sedentary work.
